We conspired over tea and company. Our ladies-in-training who had a formal etiquette class, are clever little agents, so Madame X linked the past to the present, by discussing how the simple act of polite conversation could spark a revolution. Did Madame X display the photo “Reception in the Office of Madame CJ Walker Company” for a reason? Why was it a photo from her favorite photographer, James Van Der Zee? What were those ladies discussing as they were creating an empire over tea? Oh, our Madame X’ers learned so much!
