FAQ

Where is The Madame X Academy located?

Our activities are centrally and conveniently located in the Bay Area, and we utilize various sites and venues that are appropriate for each experience.

Who is Madame X?

Well, wouldn’t you like to know! Clearly, she’s the shadowy figure behind this little operation, but like all good headmistresses, she runs a tight ship and maintains order in the midst of chaos. If you sign up for the mailing list, she may reveal her “other” identity to you. At the end of the day, she’s a modern Mary Poppins to kids and their cool parents.

Is the name Madame X used as a cultural or historic reference?

Nope.

What ages does The Madame X Academy accept for the program ?

Our age range is typically 8-14. We’ll indicate if an experience is for younger children, older ones or family/all ages. If you have a child who may enjoy our program, but is outside of the program age, just reach out via our contact list.

How do we find out about experiences, schedules and fees?

Experiences, fees and schedules will be announced first to families on our exclusive mailing list. The Madame X Academy produces ‘pop-up’ experiences, so our activities are not regularly scheduled. Classes are created and curated at the discretion of the grande dame, herself. Factors such as season, venue availability, etc…may impact our program schedule.

FEES: We design and develop curated experiences, so there’s currently no average cost per activity. We recommend that you place yourself on our mailing list, so that you’ll be alerted to a diverse range of activities that pique your child’s interests, and also fit your budget.

Psst! All Madame X’ers receive high-value extras in order to initiate them into our special sisterhood. Oh, and please don’t ask them about our secret handshake! We’ve got our own thang.

What kind of experiences does The Madame X Academy offer?

Feel free to take a look at some of our prior experiences or check out our photos. The past, however, is just that. The future, is yet untold. Oh dear. We’ve probably said too much. Our dossier is a secret, so just see what’s being offered when the emails drop with experience and registration information.

Does Madame X teach all of the courses?

Oh, heavens no! The Headmistress is the Curator of Curiosities, Oddities, People and Experiences! She’s The Tattler of Tales, The Ringleader of Risk, The Maestro of Mischief!

The town’s scholars, however, have remarked, quite openly, that the world would be a much better place if Madame X did, but, alas, that’s not the case; hence, the societal pickle that we’re currently in.

To answer your question: Yes, Madame X teaches part of the classes, but leaves specialized instruction to professionals related to the activity. Madame X Academy always tries to source African-American teachers, artists and vendors, when possible. Professional expertise and a warm, approachable personality, however, trump all other factors.

What kind of classes does Madame X Academy offer?

There are no boundaries regarding the types of experiences that are possible, and we can attest to the fact that Madame X possesses a vivid and active imagination! The purpose of the program is to provide kids with exposure to new experiences, highlight and support African-American owned businesses, and to foster greater community among Bay Area families. The Madame believes that even if a child didn’t love a particular experience (rest assured, that would never happen with us!); it will reveal something to the child that they didn’t know about themselves and the world before they tried it, and, that, in itself, is a valuable life lesson.

How do you determine inclusion into the program?

The Madame X Academy warmly welcomes anyone of any race, ethnicity or background. We’re 100% inclusive, so please join us!

Madame X will also have you know that, although, she’s an enthusiastic lover of research, she has no interest in operating a Secret Bureau of personal Investigations! Here’s a good rule of thumb: If someone, anyone, in your immediate family has experience with any of the following, then you’re probably in good standing: You can make a mean, well-seasoned pot of greens, prepare cornbread from scratch, and not the Jiffy kind; you know the difference between a Black-Eyed Pea and a Black-Eyed Susan; you make spicy gumbo with andouille sausage and don’t skimp on the crab; you have an uncle or cousin who barbecues at all the family cook outs, and you have various brands of hot sauce on heavy rotation in your kitchen pantry. You get extra points if you can clean chit’lins with the windows closed and not faint. If you’re African-American (or not), and have had none of these experiences, then you need us anyway, so welcome!

Is The Madame X Academy only for girls?

Oh dear….We sincerely hope that you’re not under the false impression that we’re stopping at young ladies! Madame X works in service to families, and it’s rumored that she even has two sons of her own! We’re a young organization, so first things first.

I’d like to teach a class, I have a resource for you, or I have an “experiences” idea

Oh, that would be lovely, indeed! The Headmistress graciously and enthusiastically welcomes your feedback, resources and involvement. Please reach out to her via electronic post. Madame X wanted to mention that finding a local, African-American dairy farmer is as scarce as hen’s teeth, so start sleuthing that, please.

Is Madame X Academy only located in the Bay Area?

Madame X moves in silence, but she may pop up anywhere, so you would be wise to add yourself to the mailing list.

Last Question…

Sorry. No more questions. Subscribe to the mailing list for class and enrollment information, and let’s get this party started.
