Oh, Sew Beautiful

Now, this is going to be a fun class! After a warm Madame X welcome, we’ll spend some time teaching our little Madame X’ers about Black fashion designers past and present; show some of their creations and discuss their influence on history, the fashion industry and pop culture. We’d love to discuss them all, but our history is just too rich to cover them in one class!

We’ll then host a live video chat with a professional celebrity wardrobe director/designer, who has worked for decades with artists such as Janet Jackson, Prince, Lenny Kravitz, Tina Turner and more! She’ll give the ladies of Madame X some design tips before they use their creative brains to sketch their gowns, that they’ll later create in class.

Next, is a lunch break hosted by Madame X, and we’ll then discuss trailblazing Black models and influencers such as Bethann Hardison, Eunice and Bob Johnson, Naomi Campbell, Iman, Beverly Johnson, Tyra Banks, Alek Wek; and watch them in interviews and the models on the runway.

Finally, we’ll make our own “couture” gowns! No sewing required!!! We’re using fabric, scissors, glue adhesives, velcro and supervised hot glue guns.

Parents are encouraged to join us at the end of the program to see what their budding fashionistas have created, and also take photos.
